Day 55 A 365photos challenge update

I had every intension of taking the time and improving my photography "eye."

Being able to see the shot before it's taken and spot the good shot when I see it.

Okay, so maybe learning that in a week or two is on the ambitious side, but I was hoping to at the very least pay attention. I didn't really. Somewhere along the line I got distracted with astrophotography, and my 365 challenge almost bordered on a chore every now and then.

But that said, I still think I got a few pretty beautiful shots with my Samsung Jet cell phone.

Here are my favourites of the past couple weeks:

A first try

We went on a stargazing weekend to the Cederberg Observatory last weekend. The weather was kind, although cold, and we had clear skies the two nights we were there. So I decided to try my hand at astrophotography. I didn't think it would be easy - but what I didn't realise is that taking the photo is just the first part. The processing afterwards is as important. So you can imagine my disappointment when I opened the pics on my computer and mostly saw black with a dot here and there. And as I am very much a beginner at taking and processing star photos, these are not the best you'll find on the web even after processing, but I gave it a shot and will hopefully just get better and better and better and better... (All ISO400,  f5.6, taken between 21h00 and 03h00 ) The belt and sword of Orion, just before they set. Canon EOS 350D standard lens, 5 second exposure, processed in PhotoShop. An ode to my hubbie

(Ode - according to en.wiktionary.org: A short poetical composition proper to be set to music or sung; a lyric poem; esp., now, a poem characterized by sustained noble sentiment and appropriate dignity of style. So apart from the sentiment this isn't really an ode at all. Oh well. ) Yesterday I watched my weekly fix of Grey’s Anatomy and House. Both shows referred to Thanks Giving. Now, here in SA we don’t celebrate a specific Thanks Giving day, but as we are approaching Easter, I figure today is as good a day as any to count my blessings. And as so many times before there is one “thing” that often comes to the foreground. Hubbie. Hubbie and I have been married for about six and a half years. And looking back over this time, it confirms we have a good life together. Both of us have grown over the years, for the better I believe. We have grown together, grown closer. There is a problem though. I can’t tell him about anything that I want, coz he will make a plan to get it for me. Oka

And then there were none

When the rain came down yesterday morning, I decided that the Athlone cooling towers had to go down without me. But, as the time drew near, the rain took a break and hubbie and I quickly grabbed the camera, binoculars, telescope and toddler and off we went. Figuring that since it’s pretty far away, Tygerberg hill would be a good (read quiet) call. It would turn out we were not the only ones with this thought. At 11h30 there were people everywhere. After some double parking to unload, I took the car to a slightly more legal spot and scampered back. Then we waited. Shouting. Towers falling. The thunderous sound only hitting a couple of seconds later. Dust. It was all over. Here are some of the pics Hubbie ( @gavlock ) took. He used our Canon EOS 350D in drive mode, shutter speed: 1/4000 sec, ISO: 400,  attached to a Skywatcher aperture 10 inch, focal length 1200mm telescope. And in the spirit of my 365photos challeng
